Busy day, interesting evening…

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

Took my children to a model train show today which we all enjoyed.  I used to be into model railroading in my pre-college days.  Now I just don’t have the room to create a layout.  Oh well, maybe someday.  The kids love watching the trains as much as I do.

This evening I took my daughter to a Girl Scout’s Father/Daughter dance.  Like most of the fathers there, I am not much of a dancer.  I don’t know if I am really that bad or my daughter is already reaching an age where she would rather be with her friends than her Dad, but she ran off and left me to sit.  Needless to say, this left me with plenty of time to talk with some of the other Dads there.  I was surprised at how many were currently laid off.  One my age told me that he has worked construction all his life and is used to being off a couple of months in the winter, but this year is different.  His boss told him that he should take whatever jobs he could find as they are not expecting a very good season this year.

When construction slows down that much, you just know that things are not going to be going in a very positive direction any time soon.  I don’t know about you, but this so called Stimulus Package by the “Chocolate Jesus” doesn’t seem to be stimulating anything in my part of the country.

This is just my ranting, but it is something I needed say.  No special pearls of wisdom.  Nothing of particular interest to the gaming/writing community today.

Another day, another $1.98 further in debt…..

Friday, March 13th, 2009

Well, Obamanomics are sure working great around here.  Me and several thousand others in the surrounding communities are unemployed and none of us are looking at a very bright future.  Although looking for work, I’m also looking to see if it would be economically feasible to restart my old business.  Just looking for anyway to get more income flowing into the household.  Right now my wife is keeping our family afloat, but who knows how long that will last.  Oh well, hope all of you are fairing this wonderful “Change” that our president promised us.

As always, I’m looking at ways to work this into our story of the Shakaroo Sector.  I’m watching the economic and political changes taking place across the globe to see what is really happening.  I love the Internet as I can watch foreign news broadcasts and get a better idea of what is really happening rather than depending only on our own propaganda machines to keep us informed.   I figure if I get news from enough different sources, the truth will be somewhere in between what is being reported.

Just think how our world economy has been shaken.  Now, think about a economy based around an Empire of thousands of worlds all trading with one another.  Here, in this sector, they are suddenly cut off from the rest of the Empire and they have to deal with all the ramifications of that.  Wow, and I thought we were having a tough time.  Can you imagine what it would be like to lose that big a chunk of your ruling government with the explosion of one small (well, relatively speaking) stargate?  I’m going to be studying our real world situation and extrapolating how the sector would be impacted by what is happening to them.  Hopefully this will make for some interesting writing coming up.  :-)

More delays….

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the delay in posting, but once again, life gets in the way at times.  I am busy with trying to find a new line of employment as well as working on a remodeling project at home and fighting with the host of our church’s website to get them to give us back access to our website.  Our former priest left and with him went our password to access the account.  What a mess.

Anyway, I will be getting back to doing more posting here in the next few days.   I have been adding to the Wiki as time permits, so at least that section is growing ever so slowly.
