Here it comes again….

March 18th, 2010

Hello everyone,

Well, Daniel Dean has contacted me and convinced me to start working on this project once again.  Looks like the Shakaroo Sector will once again have some life breathed into it after almost a year of total neglect.   There is so much to do that I’m not sure just where we will start, so keep checking back here for updates!

GURPS Spaceships + supplements

August 2nd, 2009

I really like this new books.  They keep the systems simple enough to make design and function playable yet still have enough detail to make things feel “real”.  I’m currently working on some ship designs and am learning the combat system.  Really trying to understand missile damage and anti-missile defenses.  A small learning curve, but I am working on it as time allows.

New Source Material…

July 28th, 2009

I just got GURPS Spaceships and the three add-ons.  I’m going to review what they have on spaceship design and components and then decide on some of the tech questions I have been working on.  I really like that SJG is making all the books available as PDF’s so that I don’t have to pay for those fancy hardcover books that are a bit over priced in my opinion.  I want the meat, not the flash.

July 25 - The mental flatulence is flowing…

July 25th, 2009

Hello everyone,

I have spent the last two days sitting at our annual family rummage sale and reading.  I’ve been giving a great deal of thought to social structures within the Shakaroo Sector and have been doing some re-evaluation of the Trel and their role in this area of space.  I’ve got lots of stuff racing through my poor little pea-sized brain, so I will be adding it to the ShakarooWiki as time permits.  I think that in the future, I will be trying to utilize the SharkarooWiki far more than the old web pages.  It is easier to update from anywhere and I like the way I can link articles together so easily.  Plus, it is a format that almost everyone can relate to because it is the same software utilized by the famous Wikipedia.

Well that is all for now.  I’m revamping FTL travel, looking at tech levels overall, and desperately trying to come up with interesting yet plausible cultures and societies with which to populate the Shakaroo Sector.

Until next time!

July 21st, 2009

I have once again began serious work on the Project.  I am reconsidering how I am going to handle technology and what is going to be available.   I’m also rethinking star travel and ships.  Will hopefully have some time to get this entered onto the website.  Right now it is on paper and in my warped little brain.  :-)

Half way through July already…

July 15th, 2009

Wow, this summer is just flying by.  I thought that being home so much more this summer that I would have more time to get things done.  Well, this is partially true.  The problem is that because I have more time, there is now an exponentially higher number of things to do so I really have less free time than normal.  Go figure.

I am currently doing some scientific research on FTL travel theories and also into how psionics might work and what their effects would be on society.   This is interesting stuff to me and so I am enjoying my reading as well as getting some work done on the project.

June 12th…

June 12th, 2009

Almost half way through June.  Today is the last day of school for my kids and my wife.  We will all be home for the summer vacation.  Hopefully all this family time will inspire some creative juices for me and I can get back to writing for TSS.  So far job hunting has taken all of my time, and it will continue to take up a great deal, until I actually get a new full-time job.  Seems like just about every day we hear from friends and family that have lost their jobs.  This too will wind up as grist in my mental mill.

End of May already?

May 31st, 2009

Hello everyone,

It is May 31st already and I have no idea where the time has gone.  I had planned to work on this project so much and yet life keeps getting in the way.  The family, yardwork, and gardening have taken up the whole month!  Good grief!  Well, that is okay too.  This project has always been meant to be worked on in my free time and not allowed to interfere with real life.

Towards the project goal, I have been getting some reading done.  I am currently re-reading the Dune series by Frank Herbert.  I read it a LONG time ago and am finding that I see more of the subtlety that I missed the first time I read the books.  I guess there are some advantages to getting older.  I hope that wisdom is coming with age, but only time will tell.

As I read more and live more, I hope that the project writing will improve and grow.  I’m sure that I will soon find time to write more here once again.

Until then….

Thursday…well…it was not ALL bad :-)

April 2nd, 2009

I got some web development done today.  Learning new systems still has quiet a learning curve and this old dog doesn’t learn new tricks real fast obviously, but at least I am doing it.  Have to try and keep up with the technologies available.   Since my background is heavy on database work, I am designing websites that are database driven.  MySQL is free and runs great on Linux servers, so I am having lots of fun with it.

As soon as I get my home site squared away, I may tackle The Shakaroo Sector next.  Much depends on how business is and how much time I will have to do these things.  Nothing personal, but I am hoping that business picks up so much that I don’t have time to work on this site.  :-p

More delays…

April 1st, 2009

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in the middle of completely revamping my web server and my websites.  I will also be reworking a number of client websites and so development on The Shakaroo Sector will be slow to non-existant for a bit.  Don’t worry, I will be back soon.
